Reading!

Reading is suddenly a BIG deal at our house. Levi just started reading and just lately Noah has started to enjoy reading!
This week we enjoyed Family Reading Night at school with the boys. Levi's buddy Kreed camped out with us and Levi read "Pat the Bunny" to him. It was hilarious to watch them smell the flowers because they both think the flowers actually smell wonderful! Amazingly enough after 8 years the flowers still smell pretty good, but both boys inhaled the scent as if it was the best thing they'd ever smelled! (One night last week, Levi propped the book above his head open to the flower page so he could fall asleep smelling them!)
At Family Reading Night each family brings pillows, blankets and books and part of the evening is spent actually reading together as a family in the gym.
This year there were two other stations that we rotated through, one where Gayle (the boys' preschool teacher) read a funny story about solving nursery rhyme mysteries and another one with a trivia game and a book swap.
The evening ended with the kids finding out, via a funny video the teachers made, who stole Mr. Fast's M&M jar. The kids have spent weeks reading to earn clues to the mystery and finally in the video last night they learned it was Ms. McGee! The boys had been talking about this mystery for weeks comparing who they thought had taken the jar of M&M's. Levi's face when it was revealed that Ms. McGee had the jar was priceless, a total ah-ha moment for him. :-)

Our bedtime routine is certainly changing. Levi reads at least one book to me, and then I read to him and Noah reads to himself for a good twenty minutes! It's amazing to watch Levi learn to read.
