Driving into Chicago was a bit more stressful for me than I had mentally prepared for. I sometimes forget that I have next-to-zero experience with big city driving and it became clear very quickly. But, thankfully Ben is a wonderful driver and handled it all with ease. He even managed to ignore the tension coming from the crazy lady sitting beside him!
We made it to Andy and Lia's house, found a convenient parking spot, unloaded our stuff and poked around their new house! There were some wedding details that others were working on and we thought it best to get our busy boys out of the house for a while. So, down the Blue Line we went (the boys LOVE to ride the CTA) headed for Millennium Park. Before we left the house I made the mistake of saying we might go to the beach. Levi promptly put on his swim trunks and declared he was ready to go. Whelp, my memory was wrong. There's no beach near Millennium Park, only a concrete ledge. So, we joined lots of other people sitting on the concrete, felt the cool breeze come in off the lake and fed the ducks for a while. Levi was super-mad at me, can you tell?
We turned back toward the city to find the Bean, and ran right into some amazing sunflowers!
They were tall! I had tried to grow sunflowers like these this year....but Levi pulled them all out....oops.
The boys kind of like the bean, but they don't really understand it and there are always SO MANY people.
Then we walked over to the Lurie Garden. A beautiful garden of native plants with lovely water features that people can dip their toes into and relax.
It was a nice day, but after walking so much, this little bit of cool water for our feet felt amazing.
Then we found the fountain walls that show faces on them. The water in this area was COLD and the boys didn't spend much time there, but it was still fun.
I always enjoy the flowers and architecture in Chicago. There are so many little things that you see while walking down the street. Little details of architecture and interesting plantings of flowers make it such a delightful city to visit.
Levi was worn out and required a lot of carrying. Ben should get an award for the amount of Levi carrying he did on this trip.
And once we made it back to the Blue Line, he fell asleep - nearly falling off his seat!
Ben had to carry him again just to get us from the CTA stop to the house!
And here's the outside of Andy and Lia's beautiful home. They are blessed to have a house with lovely perennial plantings in the front, side and back yards. Not to mention a lovely interior (although I don't have photos to prove it).
That evening was the Family Dinner at Birchwood Kitchen. The weather was perfect so we were able to sit outside on the patio.
The food was amazing, visiting with family we rarely see was wonderful and celebrating Andy and Lia was so sweet.
