Ready, set, go...

When we arrived at the farm on Friday the combine, header, grain cart, and truck were out of the shed. The boys were beside themselves with excitement! Wheat harvest was about to begin.
We were set to go. Overalls, check. Water jug, check.
Levi relaxed while waiting for Grandpa to hook the header onto the combine.

Grandpa went to the field just across the road from the farm so we followed down the driveway to watch. Grandpa was sure he'd have to get in and out of the combine a few times to adjust things on the header so he went solo for the first round.
One load into the truck and then everything came to a complete stop. My dad hadn't been sure the wheat was dry enough to harvest when he went out. And after he chewed some kernels of grain he really wasn't sure it was ready. Uncle Bruce took a sample in to get tested and sure enough. It was 17% moisture and to avoid dockage for wet wheat my dad really tries to avoid cutting anything above 14%.

So, all the equipment came back home. After a bit of rain last night, it looks like harvest won't be fully underway until Tuesday. Ahhh....the waiting continues.
