We went on a trip last week to Boston, Massachusetts! It's obvious, but that is certainly a longways from the middle of Kansas. The cost of airline tickets dictated that we fly out of Kansas City, so on Tuesday we traveled to a hotel in KC.
The boys jumped from bed to bed, "sprayed us with water" from the blow dryer and ran around like crazy people discovering how "cool" hotels are.
The boys did so well. They were curious and loud at the airport with their sleepy eyes and slightly messy hair. But, they did great with security and thought it was silly we had to take our shoes off. But finally, we boarded, took off, landed in Washington, DC and Levi got a to see the cockpit. The flight attendant made it happen and was excited about it, but it seemed like the pilot was not nearly as excited. Oh well.
From DC we flew to Boston and met up with Ben's parents at the airport. We caught a bus, then got on the subway, then walked a bit and found our hotel without any trouble. We all rested for a bit and then we headed out to find uncle Andy.
We thought we'd catch the Swan Boats for a ride around the pond in the Public Garden, but we were a bit too late.
Robert McCloskey's "Make Way for Ducklings" was a favorite of mine growing up and has been popular with our boys as well. We talked about the book quite a bit as we traveled around Boston. Noah rode Mrs. Mallard like she was a bucking bull. I'm sure she appreciated that.
For supper we headed to Quincy Market at Faneuil Hall. There are over 36 international food vendors there so we knew we could all find something to eat. The following picture is actually from their website (somehow - while keeping track of our kids in a huge crowd of people plus carrying food and drinks - I didn't make time to snap photos).
Next up - Harvard! First stop - the porta potties! Yes, if our boys see them they suddenly have to go to the bathroom, by themselves. Sheesh.
I should explain, we went to Boston to see Andy graduate from Harvard Law School. So, we went to check out campus before it was full of people enjoying commencement activities.
We saw one of the classrooms Andy had several classes in. While the adults stood in the corner by the door
the boys made quick work of running up and down the steps and around the room as many times as they possibly could.
