Boston: Day Two

When we packed for our trip, the weather forecast for Boston was cloudy/rainy with highs in the low 60s. So we packed pants and t-shirts and jackets. Well, much to our surprise the weather forecast changed and we got sunny days with highs in the low 80s. It was beautiful weather! We were overdressed almost the entire time, but at least the sun was shining.
The only thing that stood between our hotel and the ocean was an ENORMOUS parking lot. Thursday was graduation day (thankfully it was a casual event) so we were "dressed up" on Thursday. First thing, we headed toward the water. We were pleased to find a nice lookout, beach and sidewalk that connected this part to a much larger beach down the way.

Back to Harvard we went. Our hotel was near the JFK/UMass stop on the red line and 9 stops to the north was the Harvard stop. Noah had fun counting stops and telling us how many more we had to go to get to our destination.
Andy had purchased tickets for all of us to eat lunch at the graduation. It was an outdoor event, under huge trees. It couldn't have been a nicer day for the event.
Grandma brought Uno
and tractors to entertain the boys with. They were THRILLED with the surprise of the small farm sets to play with.
I think they were the only tractors at Harvard that day.
Ah, the graduate and his parents.
The boys gave the mortarboard a go too.

So, it turned out that we were going to have to wait another couple hours to actually see Andy walk across this stage
so Ben and I opted to take the boys back to the hotel for family nap time and snacks. They hadn't enjoyed the grilled chicken with spring greens and orzo as much as the rest of us did at graduation. So their snack at 3pm was more like a really late lunch.
After snack we met up with Tim, Sue and Andy and headed out to Fenway. The Red Sox weren't playing in Boston last weekend, but we still wanted to go check it out.
Below is the Green Monster. It's really high up there, this photo doesn't do well at showing just how high and big that green wall really is.
We found a few opportunities to peak into the stadium.

We also took the opportunity Thursday evening to walk around the North end of Boston. We saw Paul Revere's house.

In this old part of Boston, there was a distinctly different feel from any other part of the city. The streets were super narrow, mostly brick and curvy. It was too cramped for my style, but I appreciated it nonetheless.
The Old North Church.
The boys loved the fountain in the courtyard near the Old North Church. We got some of the biggest smiles of the day from the joy they had in splashing in the water.

It's almost shameful to admit, but after this we headed back to Quincy Market for another go-around. It was just as good the second night as it was the first.
