October, 2016

October is one of my favorite months!
This fall, the Goessel schools celebrated their 90th anniversary so there was a fun celebration weekend planned.
Breakfast at the fire station - yummy pancakes and sausage, plus climbing on firetrucks!
The boys and I did a scavenger hunt all over town...actually, Ben picked Levi up part way through because he wasn't feeling good. Noah and I had a great time and even won a free pizza for our efforts!
That night, Ben and I went to see one of our favorite bands, The Avett Brothers in Wichita - good times!
I also managed to convince the guys to join me in family photos...it was a struggle at first, but once the photographer started snapping photos the boys really loosened up. We actually have a photograph to use on a Christmas card this year!!
There's a horse in the pasture next door and Wilbur loves to visit her.
Noah played in a tackle football game. His team was made up of boys from Goessel and the neighboring towns of Canton and Galva. They came together to play just one game and they won!
It was a windy, damp morning, but the boys had a wonderful time and played so well.

October can't go by without a trip, or two, to Papa's Pumpkin Patch. :-)

Hauling pumpkins is hard work...
Noah also played a season of flag football. The team had fun, but winning games was a struggle this year.
A few beautiful evenings meant we could put our fire pit to good use. Kansas wind has a way of making fire pit usage difficult, but we got lucky a time or two this fall.
We made time one evening to carve pumpkins.
The boys drew designs on the pumpkins and then Ben did the carving.
The chickens got to enjoy all the goopy-seedy mess afterwards.
Levi's pumpkin is on the left, Noah's on the right.
The weather was so warm and wet this fall, it often felt more like spring than fall.
The farmers harvested soybeans in between rains.

And my mom and I harvest the peanuts from our garden!
It was a fun crop to grow and one that I think we'll try again next year.
