Chicago Weekend

This sweet little guy arrived into the Schrag family and gave us a great reason for a quick weekend trip to Chicago! Meet Ezra, our nephew and the boys' first cousin on the Schrag side of the family. Isn't he just soooo cuuuuuuuuute!?! 

On the way to Chicago, I got to sit by Noah on the plane and 

 Levi sat with Ben. That was probably good, because Levi was nervous and had all sorts of questions about the flight that Ben was better at answering than I would have been.

 We landed at O'Hare, grabbed our big suitcase and headed out the door to wait for Andy to pick us up. Airports make for amazing people watching, just amazing.

 And then it was time to meet Ezra!

 Levi was all about loving on that baby. The bad news, is that after we'd been to Andy and Lia's for a while Levi started to complain about his stomach hurting and he kept saying how cold he was. Uh oh.

 Ben, Noah and I left to go eat ice cream and fudge sauce at Margie's.

 I overheard one of the servers tell someone they'd been in business at that location for 95 years! Noah ordered a root beer float.

 Ben and I got classic hot fudge sundaes. That sauce....it's....ummmm...well, you'll just have to go there and try it! Yes, it's that good.

 And then it was all gone. Yum!

 Noah was intent on getting a Cubs hat for the game we were going to on Saturday. So, we ran around trying to track down a hat. Thanks to Uber we got around without any trouble.
Eventually, we made it back to Andy and Lia's for supper. Andy ordered in fried chicken and hush puppies that were deeeeeelicious. And the salad Andy put together was full of fresh flavors, yum.

 Otto drooled in the next room while he watched us eat. Poor guy, that fried chicken smelled soooo good.

 We tried to get Levi, who by that point had a fever, to eat something but he wasn't interested. He took a bath and then went to bed. We all hoped he'd feel better in the morning.

 Saturday morning came and Levi felt good as new! What a relief! Late morning, Ben, Noah and I headed off for the Cubs game.

 It. was. cold. Brrrr.

 But we had good seats and we had a great time watching the Cubs beat the Pirates.

 Plus we got to watch Jake Arieta pitch for the Cubs - very impressive athlete.

 Nachos made a delicious snack!

 While we were at the game, Lia sent me this photo of Levi and Ezra. Levi couldn't hold Ezra until Saturday evening due to the fever he'd had, so reading was the next best thing.

 Noah got in some time with little Ezra too.

 Look at that! It's me! I'm never on this blog. Thanks for the photo Lia! That baby was so sweet. He squeaks and makes the funniest faces. He was just a week old and was so fresh and new and amazing to stare at and soak in.

 Sunday morning we went to one of our favorite spots in Logan Square - Longman & Eagle for brunch.

 We had to wait to be seated and the boys weren't thrilled about that.

 Ben and I enjoyed delicious drinks,

 and coffee,

 and I had the best French toast. Think honeyed marsapone, fresh strawberries, tart rhubarb sauce, crunchy lavender struesel and a hint of lemon in the background. It was as full of fresh springtime flavors as anything I've ever eaten. I took a gamble ordering it because I wasn't sure what I was getting into, but I might have actually moaned a time or two while eating it.

 It was great to meet our new little nephew/cousin and to hang out with the new parents.

 It was a quick trip, but I'm sure Andy and Lia were ready to settle into life with just the three of them and we had to get our boys back home for the last two days of school.

 The boys love the adventure of traveling in the city and lucky for us, they're really good travelers.

 And off we went back to Kansas!
