Dad's 60th

A 2 1/2 inch rain in a summer of drought certainly counts as a fantastic birthday gift.  However, that same rainy weather derailed a great birthday celebration plan for my dad.  The plan was to surprise him with an airplane ride that would take my parents around the farm, the fields, where ever he wanted and then land them on the grass landing strip in Beaumont, KS.
Beaumont has an interesting history and maintains the grass landing strip as a unique feature that brings people to their town.  They also have a hotel and restaurant making it a quaint destination.  But, since the airplane ride was out of the question due to the risky weather, our entire family ended up driving.
We ate a delicious meal in the small restaurant and gave dad some gifts.  The rain let up by the time we were finished so we could explore a little bit around the restaurant/hotel.

The history of this place was pretty interesting,
and the kids needed a little time to run around.

I tried to get a photo of the three grandchildren together...it didn't quite work.
I did get some of my parents, though!

This one's a little better.

Beaumont was a great place, but flying in would be a lot more exciting than driving in.
The airplane ride wasn't forgotten, just rescheduled for Labor Day!  Mom and dad went up with our friend Brian, while the rest of us stayed at the farm and waited for them to fly over.
They made a couple of passes over head
while we stood out in the grass and waved.  The kids got a kick out of it.
Hopefully, dad felt like he was celebrated because that's what we intended to have happen even if the rain rearranged our plans.
Happy 60th dad!!  We love you so much!
