It's been a long winter for our chickens. After being outside all day, every day all summer and fall it only took a few visits from the neighborhood coyotes to convince us that keeping them in the barn would keep them alive.
Then we got Harold. Oh my. His instincts tell him to kill the chickens. So that was another excellent reason for keeping the ladies locked up. Well, a few warm days and some serious work with Harold and we've at least gotten the ladies some fresh air and actual dirt to scratch in.We keep a pretty close eye on Harold, but so far so good!
The chickens have finally found proper dust (if there is such a thing) to bathe in,
and they've scratched and pecked all over the place.
Now we're depending on Harold to keep the coyotes away while the chickens are out, and we're growing our trust with Harold. Chickens in the sun on a nice early spring day, what's better than that? Ok, I can think of a few things, but still!
